Ok, so back to the body butter – this is an absolutely fantastic DIY Body Butter recipe that is just so creamy, luxurious and effective that if you try it I’m sure you’ll never go back to Boots! It works on every skin type and is perfect for babies skin and treating nappy rash. You’ll never need Johnson’s again.
I use this body butter all over my body and face every day. A little really goes a long way. And because it is so effective – it even reduced my severe and numerous stretch marks and got rid of my sons eczema – now my whole family uses it from daddy to baby. I have a huge peace of mind about knowing exactly what we’re putting on our skin. And just to make your life even easier I’ve given you the links of where to buy all the ingredients at a great price.
1 Cup organic Shea Butter – a few of the benefits include relief of eczema, skin rash (including diaper rash), reduce scarring, acne and stretch marks.*
1/2 Cup Organic Raw Coconut Oil – a few benefits of include sun protector, treats psoriasis, eczema, skin rash (including diaper rash) and scarring.
1/2 Cup Sweet Almond Oil – this is where you can really start tweaking. You can replace this measurement with any natural oil of your choice like argan, jojoba, avocado – the possibilities are endless! Almond oil is easily absorbed and is a sun protector, wrinkle reducer, anti-inflammatory, dark circle reducer and moisturiser.**
15-20 drops Lavender Essential Oil – this is a great essential oil to use for the whole family. It’s naturally Antiseptic, Analgesic, Anti-Convulsant, Anti-Depressant, Anti-Rheumatic, Anti-Spasmodic, Anti-Inflammatory, Antiviral and Bactericide.*** I mean wow!
1. Put shea butter and coconut oil into a heat proof dish (pyrex works perfect). Place the heat proof bowl into a pot of simmering water. It doesn’t have to touch the water to work.
2. Once all completely melted take the bowl out of the pot and let cool.
4. Add the almond oil, cover with cling film and put in the fridge overnight.
5. The next day get it out of the fridge and add 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil.
6. Then get out your beaters and you’ll need to push it into the hardened oil and beat on low. Moving around the bowl keep beating and increase to a medium speed. Keep going for a few minutes until it turns to a lovely white whip cream like texture. And voila! Absolutely fool proof lavender body butter perfection.
I store mine in sterilised recycled glass jars and it works perfect. Simply put the jars through the dishwasher or wash in hot water and dry in oven on low heat. I use a mini spatula to put the body butter into the jars. This one batch lasts us about 6 months for our whole family. If it’s just for you it could last ages.
The best thing about making your own body butter is that it doesn’t go off. Really, it doesn’t. Check out all your other lotion ingredients and I bet the first on the list is water. Now water is where nasty bacteria breeds and therefore they must add a bunch of stabilisers to stop this bacteria from growing and making the product expire. Most shea butter products have only small amounts of the stuff and cost an absolute fortune. That’s what makes this homemade version a dream come true. Here’s a little price break down of the cost.
Shea butter – £4.74
Coconut oil – £1.88
Almond oil – £0.75
Lavender essential oil – £0.30 (that’s an estimate)
Total cost of batch = £7.67
Divide that over 6 months = £1.27 per month!!
